keeping it real about sleep apnea

Raylene's story

Growing up on a farm in Panhandle, Texas, I hopped on a tractor at just 8 years old, nurturing my passion for hard work and perseverance. These formative years instilled in me a deep understanding of the value of every dollar, especially in today’s challenging economic landscape. I am passionate about the belief that healthcare should never be out of reach due to financial constraints. Every individual deserves access to crucial services, regardless of their financial situation. This conviction led me to establish Sleep 2 Go – an initiative dedicated to ensuring that those without insurance or those burdened by unaffordable deductibles can still receive the diagnosis and treatment they need for this serious condition.

“I own my own welding business and the last thing I needed was another sleepless night. You saved me $$$, and helped me understand how to use my CPAP correctly. Also, thanks for letting me ask all the questions I needed about supplies. See you soon! ”

Frequently Asked Questions

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a medical condition characterized by intermittent cessation of breathing during sleep, leading to potentially life-threatening consequences. During sleep, airway obstruction can occur in two primary locations: the soft palate, which is a muscular structure at the posterior part of the oropharynx, and the trachea, which comprises the main airway. A blockage in either of these anatomical regions results in episodes of apnea, defined as obstructive sleep apnea.

The condition has been associated with several comorbidities, including hypertension, cerebrovascular accidents, myocardial infarctions, cognitive impairments, excessive daytime somnolence, and psychological disturbances, potentially culminating in mortality. A prevalent clinical manifestation of OSA is reported loud snoring, along with persistent fatigue despite adequate sleep duration.

According to DOT regulations, individuals requiring assessment for OSA typically include males with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 33 or greater and/or a neck circumference of 17 inches or more, as well as females with a BMI of 33 or higher and/or a neck circumference of 16 inches or more. To calculate BMI, individuals may utilize the online tool available at https://ww25.nhibisupport.com/, which provides a straightforward method for determination.

This information can assist individuals in determining the necessity for medical consultation. A primary healthcare provider can prescribe a sleep study if clinically indicated.

On the day of your study, please refrain from consuming any caffeinated beverages for at least 8 hours before the test. This includes soft drinks, energy drinks, coffee, tea, and chocolate.

Additionally, please avoid taking a nap for at least 10 hours prior to the test.

It is advisable to take a shower or bath as part of your regular pre-bedtime routine. Please note that we do not provide bathing facilities; however, a sink and toilet are available for your use.

We recommend that you bring your usual bedtime medications to take as needed. Additionally, please bring a lightweight, snug-fitting t-shirt (such as a Hanes undershirt with sleeves), jogging shorts or sleep pants, and your personal pillow. While we do provide pillows, you may find it more comfortable to use your own.

Please be assured that there will be no invasive procedures conducted. We kindly request that you turn off your cell phones to prevent any interruptions during testing.

For last, just relax. We got this!

Any qualified primary care provider, including medical doctors, osteopathic doctors, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants who possess the authority to prescribe medication, is authorized to order your sleep study and necessary equipment. Sleep 2 Go can handle the rest.

Excellent Question. Check out our Services Page. We offer Attended Studies for those needing DOT certification for their job and Unattended Studies. You will find that our studies are much less expensive than those currently offered by other providers.

Upon receipt of your physician’s order, we will promptly schedule your study within the week. The assessment commences at approximately 8:00 P.M. and concludes around 4:00 A.M. the following morning. Our diagnostic equipment will provide insights regarding the presence of OSA at that time, and we will then discuss your diagnosis.

We advise wearing a lightweight, well-fitting T-shirt along with either jogging shorts or sleep pants to ensure modesty. It is also essential to maintain proper hygiene and personal grooming prior to the commencement of your sleep study.

We are able to provide you with your CPAP equipment the morning following your sleep study.

Typically, your time commitment is approximately 8 hours.

We offer only new CPAP machines that are compliant with reporting standards. Our team will assist you in downloading your CPAP data to verify the proper usage of your equipment, ensuring compliance with the necessary certification requirements for your professional DOT obligations.

The positive airway pressure produced by the CPAP device effectively keeps the airway open, much like the gentle airflow applied to a balloon to achieve minimal opening without significant inflation.
